Skydance, which co-produced the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek: Beyond, alongside Paramount, wants to get back into the Star Trek movie business. Thus, there are two Trek films in development.

There’s the rumored Star Trek 4 in the works, which hopes to reunite Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and company as the rebooted crew of the Original Series-era USS Enterprise. That film would be produced by JJ Abrams, and has a script penned by Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant).

Meanwhile, another film would star an all-new cast, and would serve as an origin story for the United Federation of Planets, taking place roughly a century before the events of The Original Series. That film is set to be directed by Toby Hayes (Andor), written by Seth Graeme-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), and produced by JJ Abrams and Simon Kinberg (The Martian).
This is great news for all us Star Trek fans! Luckily, Paramount+ has kept us going with several Trek streaming shows. But to live-long-and-prosper, Star Trek needs to be back on the big screen!
