Weird: The Al Yankovic Story 4K UHD Review: Ro4ku

Weird: The Al Yankovic movie was made for Roku, but it did play in theaters at film festivals. So, like Netflix, Prime and Hulu streaming movies, it held up for that and still holds up in 4K.

Though the film is a wild spoof of both Yankovic’s life and biopics in general, Yankovic and writer/director Eric Appel give a straight commentary. They are funny but they discuss making the film and Yankovic comes clean about his actual true story when the spoof contradicts it.

Deleted scenes include meta lines, a Divine appearance with a really deep cut Pink Flamingos gross out joke, extended Oprah (Quinta Brunson) interview, full “Like a Surgeon” performance on stage with Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood) watching and more.

The Making of… is only a four minute Roku promo, but there are three different interviews. Yankovic and Daniel Radcliffe go on Seth Myers, Radcliffe, Wood and Appel at the Toronto Film Festival and Yankovic and Appel on The Wrap and IMDB. The IMDB interview specifically analyzes the cameo-filled pool party scene.
