Vin Diesel couldn’t be happier. The actor has a reason to celebrate. In fact, Diesel can’t stop dancing about it. He took to his personal page on Facebook to announce that his recent film “Riddick” took the number one spot for DVD sales this month. To top that off, Universal wants to make a sequel.
Gracious to a fault, Diesel thanked his fans for the support of the film, which sported an R rating. Here is what he had to say.
“I’m just excited, and happy, and I’m shouting out to you guys to say thank you. Universal just called me and told me Riddick is number one on the DVD charts. There’s no way Riddick would have been made without you guys. You know that. and you guys have been a part of our page since 2012 and remember how arduous a road it was to get the movie made, and to make it rated ‘R,’ and to do it with such a low budget. It’s a win for all of us and I really, really thank you so much. Yeah, I’m excited, and of course, Universal also says they want to develop the next one.”
Universal has not released an official statement about a “Riddick” sequel. Fans waited nine years between “The Chronicles of Riddick” and “Riddick.” The latest film in the saga struggled to make its way to the big screen on a $38 million budget. Though it took time and overcame adversity, it hit its mark. If fans get their wish, there will be more to come down the road.
“Riddick” was released in theaters on September 6, 2013. The DVD/Blu-ray went on sale on January 14th. The film stars Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, Nolan Gerard Funk, Dave Bautista, Noah Danby, Jordi Mollà, Bokeem Woodbine, Antoinette Kalaj, Raoul Trujillo, Lani Minella, Keri Hilson, Neil Napier, Matt Nable and Conrad Pla. Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell wrote the screenplay, from a story by David Twohy based on characters created by Jim Wheat and Ken Wheat. David Twohy directs.
