The Witcher Series for Netflix to Have Henry Cavill Portray Geralt of Rivia

Netflix has revealed that Henry Cavill will star as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, based on the book series and video game franchise of the same name. Henry Cavill, is best known for portraying Superman in Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League.

The actor actually expressed interest in playing the role to IGN last month, and this wishful thinking seems to have become a reality.

Netflix has released the official synopsis for the show’s first seasons, which hints at both well-known characters while teasing an exciting adventure. The full description can be read below:

Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the showrunner, but she won’t be directing any of The Witcher’s eight episodes. Alik Sakharov (House of Cards) will direct the first episode of the show as well as three others. Alex Garcia Lopez (Marvel’s Luke Cage) will direct two episodes, and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander) will direct two others.

Netflix’s The Witcher series is still in the works and is without a premiere date.
