The iconic singer David Bowie, has passed away at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer, his representative has confirmed.
The singer’s social media accounts posted the statement below:
David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.
David Bowie began his music career in the 60’s and later received high recognition when his album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, debuted. The singer was known for his uniquely flamboyant style that matched his unique sound. He had many hit songs such as “Changes”, “Fame”, “Heroes”, “China Girl” and many more.
In 1986, Bowie starred as Jareth the Goblin King in the Jim Henson classic Labyrinth.
Bowie’s music recently appeared in the Golden Globe-winning The Martian film, starring Matt Damon. David Bowie also released an album on Jan.8 titled “Blackstar.”
