The Housemaid 4K Review: 4Kleaning Service

The thriller of the holidays, The Housemaid, is now on digital 4K ahead of its March 17 physical media release. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t read any spoilers. The twists are really juicy.

The lavish mansion where Millie (Sydney Sweeney) goes to work for Nina (Amanda Seyfried) is luxury porn in bright vivid detail. That turns dark after the twist, when all the deep shadows in the attic are ominous. Without giving it a way, if I say a single hair is discernible in the dark, you know what I mean. Even the yard and gate is an ominous scene at night, and the winding stairwell that leads upstairs.

The Housemaid is not a big sound movie, but there is some yard ambiance. You’ll hear the gate swinging open behind you, and one big sound at the end echoes.

Some of the deleted scenes are interesting. There are some more of Nina’s demands and her husband, Andrew (Brandon Sklenar) helps Millie. Millie meets an old friend and we learn more about her abusive boss. There’s a charming breakfast in bed scene where Sklenar shows off his body.

The behind-the-scenes feature runs 35 minutes and includes a lot of interviews and on-set footage. Director Paul Feig is indeed in a full suit. Perhaps he knew the cameras would be there that day, but he is consistent. Author Freida McFadden is also included and featured prominently showing respect for the source material. An 11 minute tour of the house set with descriptions of the remodel is also informative.
