Lionsgate Limited is dipping back into its own archive and its acquisitions for Halloween releases. The 2009 Sorority Row remake was originally released by Summit before the merger, so it’s Lionsgate now. And the slasher movie definitely fits with Lionsgate horror. An I Know What You Did Last Summer incident gone wrong makes a group of graduating sorority sisters snipe at each other while dodging the killer.
The setting looks great in 4K shadow which only adds to the horror. The inciting incident happens in a pitch black well, and you see the silhouettes in the quarry. They return to the well at the end, the second time lowering Briana Evigan into it with only a mirror shard reflecting light.
There are also dark basements and kitchens. The killer wears a graduation gown which creates a deep black silhouette, emerging from other deep shadows. The graduation night party is also at night so outside the house is shrouded in shadow, with the party dudes completely oblivious to the horror ensuing.
Surround sound adds to the horror with wind outside the sorority house. Partiers fill the room. The shower drips and jump scares get you in every channel when cell phones ring.
Four new bonus features reflect well on the movie with the creators and two horror writers who discovered it later. Leah Pipes still speaks very vividly about her character and specific moments of vulnerability.
