SDCC 2018: FLCL 2 & 3 interviews with Kari Whalgren, Jason DeMarco and Production I.G.

Growing up, I remember watching FLCL on the Toonami block on Cartoon Network. It was such a wacky series but it had this charm that as a teenager I just enjoyed watching. As the series was only six episodes long, I always wanted to see more….more of the characters, more of the animation, more of the music and it never happened.

Back in 2016, it was announced that Adult Swim and Production I.G. would be releasing a new FLCL series. This was huge news and soon after it was announced that it wouldn’t be just one season but two seasons and that was even better. Last month, the first of the two new seasons aired on Adult Swim with a short wait for the third season which is set to air in September. Of course, the first episode of FLCL Alternative aired back in April as an April Fools Joke (Adult Swim has some of the best April Fools Jokes IMO) but at San Diego Comic-Con we had the chance to chat with some of the people responsible for FLCL returning.

We had a chance to chat with Maki Terashima-Furuta (President at Production I.G., LLC and Executive Producer for FLCL 2 & 3), Mitsuhisa Ishikawa (Production I.G. CEO), Jason DeMarco (vice president and creative director for on-air at Adult Swim) and Kari Whalgren (voice of Haruko Haruhara) about the new series and more.

Fans may be happy to hear some news about the new Ghost in the Shell series that is in development and will consist of seasons each with 12 episodes with the first season being directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and the second season by Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Space Pirate Captain Harlock).
