‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ At Comic Con… Cast Members Talk “Season 3”

Zombies and the undead certainly shared the spotlight with superheroes and spacemen at Comic Con 2026, including Zach Cregger promoting his upcoming Resident Evil movie and a reunion panel of the original Night of the Living Dead cast. But a centerpiece of this ensemble of ghouls was none other than The Walking Dead: Dead City, producers and stars of the AMC series discussing the much anticipated season 3 with their devoted fans.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, Aimee Garcia and Raul Castillo took to the con’s highly revered Hall H stage on July 24th, accompanied by executive producers Scott M. Gimple and Seth Hoffman, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and footage from the Dead City set, as well as a clip from season 3’s first episode (the episode premiering that weekend, July 26th, on AMC). Unveiled at the panel was the upcoming appearance of Emily Kinney, who starred in the original Walking Dead series, reprising her role as “Beth Greene” for DC’s season 3. Also announced was the fourth and final season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon starring Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, which will air in 2027.
Beginning in 2023, Dead City is the fifth spinoff and first direct sequel to the original Walking Dead TV series. DC’s two main characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) were fierce enemies in The Walking Dead, Negan having once been the leader of a large, ruthless group of survivors who had executed Maggie’s husband.
Since DC’s season 1, the rival pair have been forced to work together in various circumstances, reluctantly and gradually setting aside their differences for the greater good, and now, in season 3, they must direct their volatile “partnership” toward building the first thriving community in Manhattan since the apocalypse.
However, as chaos arises, the question remains: Will their collaboration last long enough and be strong enough to help save a near hopeless New York from impending doom and perhaps alter the 16-year-old franchise’ s main ongoing theme – “Living” people in a broken Zombie-infested society can pose a far greater threat than the actual “monsters”.
At a Comic Con press conference, Dead City’s actors and producers chatted in detail about the strange dynamic between Negan and Maggie.
“What they’ve learned is that they’re stronger together than they are separately, and it’s taken them a long time to come to that conclusion,” stated Morgan. “They’re a formidable duo, yet they have always been at odds and were always trying to kill each other, so taking the next step forward is going to be quite a ride.”
“[Maggie] is connecting here with somebody [she] should have no business connecting with, and that’s the new world we get to explore, and what becomes of this,” Cohan commented. “This change is so uncomfortable, and yet so brilliant. From 2011 to 2026, we’re doing something different.”
Asked by a fan at Hall H if there was any chance of Negan and Maggie “hooking up”, Cohan replied with, “You guys don’t want to see this happen. Having two enemies working together is so much more interesting than seeing two people hook up.”
Morgan, on the other hand, responded with, “I’m gonna say yes”, igniting a loud, crazy cheer among the crowd.
