20th Century Fox closed out last summer with their surprise hit film, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.”  A terrific film, which sported the slogan “Evolution Becomes Revolution,” was praised by critics and fans alike.  The film left audiences asking, “Will there be a sequel?”

This week in Las Vegas at the CinemaCon Convention, co-chairman of Fox Film Entertainment, Tom Rothman, confirmed the studio will film the sequel to last year’s summer hit.  Principal photography will take place once the studio has positioned the film for a release date.  If it were to open in the summer of 2013, then filming would begin this autumn.  However, the opening of the sequel may be pushed toward the end of 2013.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” director Rupert Wyatt has expressed some interest in taking over the reins once more, but no official news has been made at this time.
