Ride On was a good modern Jackie Chan movie. He plays a movie stuntman in a tribute to the Hong Kong film industry which allows for action scenes in films within the film. It was so good a clip fooled people into thinking the real Chan was reminiscing with his daughter. He also has three fight scenes as part of the plot outside recreations of movie scenes.
So it’s nice that the Blu-ray edition of the film has two behind the scenes features that reveal Chan still gets injured. He just shrugs it off but director Larry Yang is still new enough to freak out. Yang also points out some Easter eggs for Chan’s classic movies.
Footage shown in those bonus features reveals Chan uses more wires now, but he should. It’s still hard house a bamboo ladder and rocking chair as weapons, but if they can paint out a safety wire they can avoid another Armour of God situation.
Speaking of which, there are more spotters wearing green or blue spandex that can be removed. That’s good. Perhaps his head injury could have been avoided if they’d had the technology to CGI out spotters standing closer. They also have horse trainers in green standing right next to the horse in the scene, even riding the horse to steer it safely through action.
So check out Jackie Chan’s latest and see a bit more than the end credit outtakes on the Blu-ray.
