Arrrrrrrrrrr!!! There be a gathering of the most infamous scalawags and swashbucklers of Southern California on the weekend of August 27 & 28 in the form of the pirate themed convention known as Pyrate Daze. This year the convention showcased a combination of steampunks and zombies for a little extra spice. Attendees enjoyed live music from such bands such as the Doxie Chicks, The Pirates Charles, and Veronique Chevalier, as well as a number of live performers such as the absolutely beautiful mermaids who lounged about within the hotel swimming pool and the comedic stylings of Dante.
A number of celebrities such as Vernon Wells (Commando and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior) and Doug Jones (Hellboy and Rock Jocks) were on hand to sign autographs and pose for photos. Other activities attendees were able to enjoy included a Q & A with special effects and make up artist Jaime Feldman as well as make up artist Monica Irusta Jennings, and a panel discussion with Jack Sparrow Impersonaters Dwight V. Coleman, Janty Chattaw, Ronnie Rodriguez, and Richard Maldonado. Sponsors for Pyrate Daze included Blackheart Premium Spiced Rum (quite a tasty beverage I must say!) and STC Clothing. And percentage of the proceeds made at this event and auction went to Heartfelt Cardiac Projects and the OC Fallen Firefighters Relief Fund.
