Making a quick jump to streaming after its February release, Psycho Killer is now available on digital video-on-demand. While there are no bonus features, it does offer a nice looking 4K transfer for horror fans.
Georgina Campbell plays a highway patrol officer hunting a Satanic Killer. That means the open midwest roads look gorgeous lined with snow or open fields.
But, Psycho Killer is a horror movie so it embraces the darkness. Red motel light anticipates the Satanic influence, and then presents deep shadows in the corner of cars as the killer (James Preston Rogers) attacks drivers.
There’s a pretty impressive tanker crash that lights up the deep night. The patrolwoman also pursues the killer to Three Mile Island in the deepest night for the climax.
Psycho Killer probably won’t stand out in the genre or spawn a franchise, but it does the job for a one-off rental. It did get a crisp 4K transfer for a modern horror look.
