Playtonic announces Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

Playtonic’s Yooka-Laylee was a massive success with its Kickstarter in 2015 and later release in 2017. Formed by ex-members of Rare, Yooka-Laylee is a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, with 3D platforming action reminiscent of the Nintendo 64 era. It wasn’t a perfect game, but many gamers enjoyed it in spite of its flaws.

Today Playtonic has announced a sequel to the game with a different spin: Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. Rather than being a 3D platformer this time, the perspective has changed to 2D, with Yooka and his sidekick Laylee going through various levels to get to the Impossible Lair. Between these levels is a 3D overworld with a top-down perspective, filled with puzzles and other activities.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will release in 2019 on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
