With excitement building after the release of 2012’s “The Avengers,” “Ant-Man” was named by Marvel Studios as one of their Phase Three superheroes to have its own standalone film. Reports are that actor/comedian Paul Rudd is in early talks to play the role of Dr. Henry Pym a.k.a. Ant-Man.
An unlikely candidate, Rudd is known for his work in comedic roles, but does share elements of his personality with the character. This formula paid off for Marvel once before when they cast Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man. So, it is possible that lightning could strike twice.
Here is the basic storyline for the action/sci-fi film.
Biochemist Dr. Hank Pym uses his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects.
“Ant-Man” is slated to make its way into theaters on July 31, 2015. The film stars Paul Rudd. Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright co-wrote the script based on the comic book character created by Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber and Stan Lee. Kevin Feige will produce for Marvel, while Edgar Wright (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”) directs.
