Paramount Pictures unleashes the first Sonic The Hedgehog movie trailer

It’s finally here, the long-awaited Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer, I say long awaited because we’ve held out hope that we might be pleasantly surprised and well we weren’t.

The trailer starts off introducing the setting for the film “Green Hills” and shows off a very oddly CGI designed Sonic the Hedgehog who apparently lives inside a cave much like Yogi Bear and hits play on an old school boombox where Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” is played through the rest of the trailer which doesn’t really fit the trailer, Thriller or Beat it from Michael Jackson would have worked much better but for obvious reasons that wasn’t an option.

We then see Sonic interact with Tom Wachowski (played by James Marsden) as well as Dr. Robotnik/Eggman (played by Jim Carrey) who was probably the best part of the movie. That might be because Jim Carrey’s take on Dr. Robotnik felt like an evil version of Ace Ventura and at best of all we get a look at full on Eggman costume.

The trailer seems ok, it doesn’t look like the movie is geared towards fans who grew up with the blue hedgehog but more for a younger audience. Sonic’s design looks very off, he looks more human-like and less like his cartoonish exterior so that’s a bit off-putting.
