Ever since the first Star Wars movie opened in 1977 people have been lined up for hours to be among the first to watch the films. The tradition continued from movie to movie and the last time we saw it happen was for Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith (2005). Fast forward ten years later and some circumstances have changed with the franchise. For one, Disney and not George Lucas is in charge of the films after buying the rights. The other thing is the introduction of reserved seating in theaters but, that hasn’t stopped our friends from LiningUp.net from assembling in front of the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. For them it’s all about the line experience and spending time with friends.
The line began on Saturday, December 5th at 12pm with dozens signing up and the attendance is growing everyday. Hollywood’s Chinese Theatre has been extremely welcoming and has allowed the line members to set up on the courtyard. In line there are people from all backgrounds proving once again that Star Wars is a force for unity. Also, LiningUp.net is dedicated to bringing awareness and donations to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. A nonprofit organization that seeks to improve hospital experiences for children.
The Line Awakens (as it’s being called), is happening right now – all day, everyday. It’s a ton of fun and an experience to remember for the rest of your life. How do I know? Because I lined up with this group for Episode 2 and 3.
See you there!
