Everything is Sinister! After the reboot of the ‘Uncanny X-Men’ title the team faces a classic foe in the form of Mr. Sinister who has transformed a large part of San Fransisco and created an army of clones using the Dreaming Celestial as a power source. Is it just me or has the Victorian geneticist obsessed with mutant genes kind of lost his edge? Has Mr. Sinister become not so sinister?
In this second issue writer Kieron Gillen (Generation Hope and Thor) shows off his talents as a man of many words by having Sinister explain his plans and actions to Cyclops’ new extinction team. Sinister has always been a bit of a smug arrogant egoistic villain but now he comes off as kind of a goofy stereotypical mustache twirling bad guy. But in a world of former good guys turning into evil bad asses apocalyptic menaces it distinguishes him from the crowd and is a interesting take.
While this dialogue heavy issue is a fun read it falls a tad short from how good the first issue was. Overall it was okay but nothing spectacular or amazing to write home about. Hopefully the magic returns in the next issue when an angry Celestial is scheduled to appear.
