Executive producer Brian Grazer announced that there will be 17 new episodes of the wildly popular cult series Arrested Development. The series will be coming to Netflix. There has been no official word made from the on-demand provider at this time. Grazer had this to say about the new episodes on Bill Simmons‘ podcast:
I love Arrested Development. But it never — it was never a huge thing. But people are loyal to it, and we’re going to do another 17 episodes. So stay tuned for Arrested Development.
As far as any other news is concerned, Grazer kept things pretty close to the vest.
The cast and crew never got the show out of their systems and have expressed a desire to keep the series alive. A season four, which included 15 episodes, was released in May of 2013 on Netflix. So, it doesn’t come as a shock that another season will go into production.
Although coordinating a feasible schedule to bring the original cast back may prove tricky, it proved to be successful in creating season 4, but with mixed results. The actors were extremely busy on other projects and it seems that will be an issue once again.
Writer/producer/creator Mitchell Hurwitz mentioned that he would prefer to make an Arrested Development movie. This would alleviate conflicting schedules with the actors, but Grazer is set on producing a new season instead.
