Monster Hunter Film series announced with Milla Jovovich set to star

It’s official, another one of Capcom’s popular IPs will be heading to the big screen. This time rather than focusing on zombies, it will focus on monsters. Specifically those in the Monster Hunter franchise.

The German production company Constantin (which also worked on all six Resident Evil movies) is behind the movie and will be teaming up once again with Paul W. S. Anderson, who will direct the film. Anderson’s wife Milla Jovovich who starred as the main character Alice in all of the Resident Evil movies will be the star of the film.

The Monster Hunter movie is set to enter production in September, it will have budget of around $60 million and will be filmed around Cape Town, South Africa. The plan is to make the Monster Hunter a film series, similar to the Resident Evil movies which raked in a total of $1.2 billion globally.

Chairman of the Executive Board of Constantin Film Martim Moszkowicz told Variety, “What I love about Monster Hunter is the incredibly beautiful, immersive world they’ve created. It’s on the level of like a Star Wars movie, in terms of world creation,” he said. “There are no real central characters so it’s a bit like when we first approached Resident Evil and imposed our own characters and story on that world. I think this is a perfect IP for us to do exactly that same thing again.”
