Monster Blu-ray Review: We Need to Talk About Minato

Well Go releasing all the Asian films in the US market doesn’t just mean action movies, though we appreciate those. They’ve also got Hirokazu Kore-eda’s latest drama, Monster. This was in the conversation during award season nominations though ended up overshadowed by other entries. It’s still a worthwhile film though.

Monster begins as a story of a seemingly troubled kid and the battle between his mother and the school. The longer it goes, the more we learn about the teacher and the student, and it becomes something else.

This is another rich, deep character drama from Kore-eda. Through subtle depictions of characters’ situations and motivations, Monster becomes a moving portrayal of children and their caretakers.
