Mercy Road Blu-ray Review: The Fast and the Frantically Furious

Mercy Road is a thriller set entirely in a car from the hero’s point of view. I’m always interested to see if movies like this can pull it off, and Mercy Road definitely did. It’s a different sort of thriller than Locke but it plays by its own rules and does the job for 85 minutes.

Tom (Luke Bracey) is already driving in a panic when we meet him. His daughter, Ruby, is missing and he’s frantically calling people and dodging other distracting calls. The audience gets to piece together what happened from his phone calls.

There are some situations that occur on the road and Tom has to navigate them without taking a detour from finding Ruby. Bracey plays the extreme situation and conveys Tom’s frantic energy. It’s almost contagious enough to make the viewer jittery.

The Blu-ray holds up with the view inside the car. It keeps Bracey in pretty extreme closeup for most of the movie drawing focus to his extreme reactions. So, whether you pick up a Blu-ray or digital VOD, Mercy Road is engaging and full of surprises for a quick watch.
