Marvel and Disney’s “The Avengers” May Become a Weekly Television Series

Marvel and Disney’s “The Avengers” has scored huge by amassing over $600 million at the domestic box office.  Now, Marvel is exploring the option of bringing an action/drama series to the small screen that takes place in the Avenger’s world.

A source says that the connection to “The Avengers” franchise would be light and is expected to be set in the same universe and feature some of its themes and feel, but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster.  It is described as “a kernel of an idea,” with a number of scenarios being explored, including a high-concept cop show possibly a special police task force. Marvel has already given the Avengers the animated treatment with Disney XD’s “The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” and the upcoming “Avengers Assemble.” Stay tuned, it’s possible that some semblance of an Avengers-themed television series will air on ABC.  Marvel and ABC are both owned by the Disney Company.

The sequel to “The Avengers” with the creative title of “The Avengers 2” has been given a 2015 release date.  This will follow the third Iron Man film, the second Thor movie, and the second Captain America film.
