Love Actually 4K UHD Review: Romanti4K Comedy

There probably hasn’t been a time in the last 20 years that Love Actually hasn’t been playing somewhere. This Christmas gives it the 4K UHD treatment for a slightly new look at the classic holiday rom-com.

The aesthetic of Love Actually is generally a bright, light Christmastime England. Yet it is remarkable how consistent the look is for each character in each subplot. Whether the Prime Minister mansion or a regular flat, the stories blend together visually as well as romantically.

On Christmas Eve it captures some brisk English winter nights, but the most pure shadow comes in the school play when kids are performing in the spotlight.

You’ll still see the film grain. Thankfully 2003 hadn’t turned rom-coms fully digital yet.

Sound-wise, it’s mainly the music that surrounds the viewer in 5.1.

A new 30 minute “Making Love Actually” includes Richard Curtis, Bill Nighy, Abdul Salis, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Lucia Moniz, Rodrigo Santoro and many behind the scenes crew members. Doing this 20 years later allows them to discuss both the making of the movie and its legacy over the years.

You can always go back to the DVD commentary and deleted scenes with the airport Parkour which are all still included.
