Long Beach Comic Expo is coming to the Long Beach Convention Center this weekend. LBC Expo directors Martha Donato, and Phil Lawrence have expanded the usual one day show to a two-day extravaganza. An enthusiastic Lawrence hinted at the reason for the added day.
“We are very excited about the huge range of panels and programs at this year’s Expo.”
Celebrating its fifth year, the newly expanded Expo will host dozens of panels, including spotlights of Gerry Conway, Marv Wolfman and Steve Niles, anti-bullying and body positive cosplay panels, and informative discussion for aspiring creators. In “Body Positive,” famous cosplayers including Ani-Mia will host a discussion about body image, bullying, and how to create a positive environment in a negative world. The conversation continues in “Cosplay Does Not Equal Consent,” covering the challenges and stereotypes cosplayers face when they express themselves in public. Creator-focused panels include inside looks at comic book writing, drawing and lettering, tips for making the most of a convention, and more. The next generation of artists are encouraged to bring their parents to the “Kids Draw Comics,” lead by Super Siblings cartoonist Patrick Scullin. Bring your sketchbook and favorite drawing tools for a lesson in how to draw your favorite characters.
