Lethal Weapon is such a Los Angeles movie. Now I recognize the sites from 12 years before I got here. Seeing it in 4K, I would believe these are the current location if it weren’t for the 1987 differences.
Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover)’s shift is in bright daylight illuminating the city streets. When the film does follow them at night, the sky above them is a deep pure black.
An especially beautiful shot shows a helicopter flying over the ocean at sunset.
Having the director’s cut in 4K is nice too. The blu ray only had theatrical and the DVDs were separate. Of the 3 with multiple versions, this is the only one with significant additions. It’s not necessarily superior to the theatrical but I like the school sniper scene and Murtaugh on the shooting range.
Surround sound brings you helicopters and rain, with explosions reverbrating in the background.
The 4K UHD includes two new bonus features. A Richard Donner tribute is nice. Glover, Shane Black, Lauren Shuler Donner and even JAckie Swanson and Traci Wolfe speak about him. The same group also addresses the chemistry between Glover and Gibson.
