Rumors of an “Expendables” film with female protagonists have been circulating for the past couple of months. Now, those rumors can be dispelled. 1984 Private Defense Contractors will produce the project and “Battlestar Galactica” alum Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) has signed on along with former MMA fighter Gina Carano as part of the soon to be expanding ensemble.
Adi Shankar will produce for 1984 Private Defense Contractors, while rookie writer Dutch Southern (“Hoof Harrington’s Greatest Hits”) has been hired to pen the screenplay. According to Variety, several prominent actresses affiliated with the action genre continue to circle the project.
“If you spend five minutes with Katee it becomes blatantly obvious that she would pwn (sic) most male action stars,” said Shankar.
Sackhoff has garnered a large fan following after portraying Captain Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace on Sci-Fi’s “Battlestar Galactica” series. After the series ended, Sackhoff has kept busy on such shows as “The Big Bang Theory,” and “Longmire.” She is scheduled to appear as a bounty hunter in the third “Chronicles of Riddick” installment opposite Vin Diesel.
The untitled “Female Expendables” film is in development and stars Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff. Adi Shankar will produce, while Dutch Southern will write the screenplay. No director has been hired to helm the feature at this time.
