DEADLINE has reported that actor Joaquin Phoenix and Marvel Studios talks for the the actor to play Dr. Strange are now “kaput.”
The site mentioned that Marvel is already looking around at other actors for the role and to not believe the talks that Marvel and actor Ethan Hawke have come to a deal to for the actor to play Stephen Vincent Strange. The site did not say why the talks between Phoenix and Marvel ended.
Some actors that have been mentioned of possibly playing the role of Dr. Strange other than Joaquin Phoenix are Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jared Leto.
The film is being directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Deliver Us From Evil) and is being written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus).
