Inside Out 2 4K Digital Review: A4kiety

After ruling the summer box office, Inside Out 2 is now available digitally in 4K. All Pixar movies look great in 4K, but Inside Out 2 especially shows off the bright and colorful inner world of Riley’s mind. The real world contrasts this but it’s still detailed.

Inside Out 2 immerses you aurally too with surround sound in the hockey rink, demo day and the echo of the Sarchasm.

A 12 minute bonus feature with the creators, cast and even a child psychologist analyzes the new emotions of Anxiety, Embarrassment, Envy and Ennui, and how to animate them. Another feature does the same for the characters in the vault, but they’re more about childhood memories than states of mind.

Over 20 minutes of deleted scenes in animatic form show many different avenues the early script went down. A talent show gave way to hockey as the macguffin. An embarrassing pool party is what originally led to Joy and Sadness getting exiled. Puberty Park had great puns like Mood Swings.

These deleted scenes also taught the creators what was too much. Introducing Self-Loathing was probably an even bigger concept for kids than Ennui but it’s interesting to see how it might have worked.
