We were supposed to get Horizon: Chapter 2 in August. While we wait for a release date, Chapter 1 is available at home in 4K UHD.
I liked Kevin Coster’s latest western. It balances many characters and different issues of frontier life, with a postmodern political view about the inevitable violence of colonizing. And it has no shortage of action so it never feels slow.
In 4K, those landscapes are epic, bright vistas. You are not only there on location, but in the past vividly. Costner captures some powerful silhouettes on horseback riding at dawn. The starry night punctuates the pitch black 19th century plains.
Costner uses sound to set the scene too. With a surround sound setup, you’ll hear wind, creaking word and horses whinnying from all sides.
There are unfortunately no bonus features included in this first release. Hopefully there are a bunch in the can for when Chapter 2 inevitably comes out.
