Hokum was made for 4K with all the darkness shrouding the film. Adam Scott plays an author embroiled in a supernatural mystery when he stays in an Irish hotel.
In the dark hotel room honeymoon suite and even darker basement, you can see all the subtleties, and where spirits are hiding. The exceptions are daytime exteriors in the forest and the book he is writing.
Sound captures the subtle spiritual atmosphere and jump scares. The desert novel scene buzzes too but it’s mainly about steady discomfort than loud shocks.
