Final Destination: Bloodlines 4K UHD Review: Death in 4K

Final Destination: Bloodlines was a welcome return of the horror franchise. It had some devilish kills and clever generational take on the franchise. The 4K UHD captures that theatrical experience with some worthwhile behind the scenes features.

It’s a modern movie so the 4K transfer looks clear. The high dynamic range is most apparent in the nighttime climax at the burning house, with a bit in the MRI room and tattoo parlor. But the broad daylight deaths are part of the fun of Final Destination.

The sound is a lot more subtle than you might expect from a bombastic Final Destination movie. The death traps creeak and clank, some legitimate dangers and some misdirects.

The chandelier swings precariously from right to left. Chains swing, piercings and instruments clank against the MRI magnet. There’s less than a second of lawnmower mowing face, but the subwoofer rumbles a lot from the twoer to the parlor speakers and MRI whir.

Three short behind-the-scenes show how some of the death scenes were captured on set. The late Tony Todd did an interview on the set filming his last scene. Sadly, there are no deleted scenes despite there being an entirely different death scene filmed in the hospital revolving door.

Directors Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky give a full audio commentary. They are very technical but alos point out omens and Easter eggs, teasing one that they don’t give away.
