With the rights ready to expire, studio 20th Century Fox is scrambling to hold onto their “Fantastic Four” franchise. Writer Mark Millar (“Kick-Ass,”) who is overseeing all of the studio’s Marvel properties, tweeted the news Friday.
“Just off the phone with Fox and some excellent news — Matthew Vaughn is producing Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot!”
Vaughn who directed Millar’s “Kick-Ass” in 2010 was brought in by Millar to presumably help with the cohesion among the various Marvel properties in development at the studio. Vaughn has a proven track record with the aforementioned “Kick-Ass” and 2011’s “X-Men: First Class.” As far as the director’s chair is concerned, the young Trank made an impression with audiences last year with his critically acclaimed film “Chronicle.”
It is unknown whether Ioan Guffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, or Michael Chiklis will return to reprise their roles as the core members of the Fantastic Four. What do you think the producers should do? If there is a turnover in the cast, which actors would you like to see play the roles in the reboot?
“The Fantastic Four” is slated for a March 6, 2015 release. No actors have been cast at this time. Ashley Miller and Jeremy Slater wrote the screenplay based on the story written by Jeremy Slater, Zack Stentz, and Josh Trank from characters created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. Josh Trank directs.
