Set in a post-Jax Teller world of Sons of Anarchy, Mayans M.C. sees EZ Reyes, a former golden boy now fresh out of prison, as a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California-Mexico border who must carve out his new outlaw identity.
In Mayans M.C., Richard Cabral plays Johnny ‘Coco’ Cruz. We had a chance to sit down and interview Cabral and he shared some info about his character with us.
Among the highlights, we asked him how important is it to have the Latino culture represented on a huge platform like the FX network?
It’s a game changer! Not only for me in my career but for generations to come for filmmakers, writers, and future directors. Growing up in East LA as a Mexican, there weren’t too many shows that represented us. This is not Stand and Deliver or a Cesar Chavez story but it’s a great thing to see happen.
People are gonna look at this in the future and say wow they were given an opportunity and they did it.
The show is going to carry a massive fan base from the start that will be coming from Sons of Anarchy. How different will Mayans M.C. be?
It’s gonna feed the appetite that people are bringing for the SOA but, it’s gonna be at a different level internationally that SOA couldn’t do, such as bring in different ethnicities.
