Set in a post-Jax Teller world of Sons of Anarchy, Mayans M.C. sees EZ Reyes, a former golden boy now fresh out of prison, as a prospect in the Mayan M.C. charter on the California-Mexico border who must carve out his new outlaw identity. The first season kicks off on Tuesday, September 4th on the FX Network.
Sons of Anarchy veteran, Emilio Rivera, has returned to reprise his role as Marcus Alvarez aka “The Godfather” or in Spanish “El Padrino.” We had a chance to sit down and interview Rivera where he shared some information about his character with us.
You were in Sons of Anarchy and that build-up a huge audience. Was there any pressure for you coming into this show?
You know, I thought there would be pressure. When Kurt Sutter told me in a meeting it was going to happen, I read it (the script) and I saw the people that they were hiring, there was no pressure. The crew is great. Their writing some beautiful and horrific stuff. You know what I mean?
With the popularity of Sons of Anarchy and other stuff you have been in, do you get people doing double takes when they see you out on the street?
Yes, I sometimes do. I always go out of my way to take pictures with people if they ask for one. I tell my wife to slap me on the head if I ever stop doing that. I’ve never wanted to be that kind of person. I’m grateful for my fans. It’s when people stop asking for pictures that I need to be worried.
How will this show differ from Sons of Anarchy?
Other than it’s a biker show there’s almost no comparison. No ones better than the other but, we are totally different in Mayans.
How do you handle people constantly asking you for spoilers?
They ask me all the time but, I have to simply say you gotta watch it.
