After its summer release, the latest Evil Dead came ome in time for spooky season. This one follows Evil Dead Rise as deadites plague a new family. Their remote estate is larger than a cabin but just as isolated, providing more modern implements of impalement and physical assault.
Director Sebastien Vaniceck used desaturated color to distinguish Evil Dead Burn in the franchise. The 4K UHD captures that muted look, so the blood splashes extra bright crimson against it. The gore is grimy and vivit. Still, there is a deep silhouette of the deadite standing in the middl e of the road and the fiery finale turns redder than the stage blood.
Surround sound mainly constitutes a persistant deadite rumble. However, the rear speakers are really activated in the one-take fight in the living room when the action continues out of camera frame.
Three five-minute featurettes focus on the new camerawork in the entry. How they coordinated actors and stunt people in the oner, the car stunts and some practical makeup offer a decent overview in 15 minutes.
And stay for the credits to see how Burn connects to the other Evil Dead movies.
