Marvel.com has announced that David Tennant (Dr.Who) will join the Netflix series “Marvel’s A.K.A Jessica Jones.” David Tennant will play the role of Killgrave aka the Purple Man.
Marvel.com describes Killgrave as “an enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.”
Executive Producer Melissa Rosenberg had this to say about Tennant:
“I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character. He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.”
Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb had this to add:
“Anyone familiar with David’s work knows he brings an incredible level of dedication to any role he inhabits, a level we knew we would need from the man playing Killgrave. While most know him for his roles as a hero, we can’t wait to unleash a whole new side of this talented actor.”
In the comics, Zebediah Killgrave was a spy for the Communists when he was assigned a mission to steal an experimental nerve gas from the U.S. Army. During the mission, Killgrave was shot at and the gas canister was hit, which caused Killgrave’s hair and skin to turn purple. Thus, Killgrave was also known as the “Purple Man.” The accident also gave him the ability to emit pheromones from his skin, which would cause a form of hypnosis to his victims.
