Directors Favreau and Fincher Up for “Star Wars” Sequel

Earlier this month, it was reported that director/actor Jon Favreau was giddy as a schoolgirl when it came to news about the seventh Star Wars film having an opening for a director.  Now word has it that Favreau is “panting after this job,” and filmmaker David Fincher is interested in the position as well.

Both directors have worked for Lucasfilm over the years in some capacity.  Favreau used the facilities at Skywalker Ranch to mix the sound on “Iron Man.” He also did some voice work on one of the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” episodes. Fincher worked as an assistant camera man on 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.”

As with most of the news attached to the new Star Wars trilogy, nothing has been confirmed by either Walt Disney Pictures or LucasFilm.

The as of yet untitled “Star Wars: Episode VII” film is expected to open in theaters in May of 2015.  Academy Award winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”) is penning the script.  No director has been hired at this time.
