Darkest Dungeon 2 Revealed by Red Hook Studios with Teaser Trailer

Unexpectedly, Red Hook Studios today revealed that it is working on a sequel to 2016’s release of Darkest Dungeon.

Titled Darkest Dungeon 2, it is currently in development and while details are sparse, Red Hook Studios did release a teaser trailer to reveal the project’s existence. The trailer itself is only about 30 seconds in length but it shows the original game’s character classes before the Roman numeral “II” appearing in front of a sprawling mountainscape. The game’s narrator from the first game also seems to be returning as well, as his voice-over is heard in the trailer.

Speaking to PC Gamer, Red Hook Studios revealed a few initial details of Darkest Dungeon 2 and stressed that it is a very different game than its predecessor. If the first Darkest Dungeon was about “cleaning up your backyard,” this sequel is said to be more of an exhaustive journey. Perhaps most importantly to fans of the first game though, the combat system will be returning but will just be altered a bit. “Our combat system is making a return, but we’re giving it a significant tune-up—mechanically, and in terms of presentation,” Red Hook Studios said.

Lastly, Red Hook also revealed that Darkest Dungeon 2 would be going with the Early Access model. They stated that they believe the format of this sequel fits perfectly with the Early Access model which is leading them to make it available as such.

Details on platforms, other than PC, and a release window for Darkest Dungeon 2 haven’t been given and Red Hook themselves still haven’t revealed much in regards to specifics about the project.
