Crime 101 came out early in the year when I was still recovering from Sundance so I missed it in February. It is a solid movie that would have been nice to see in a theater, but it also makes a nice discovery on home video, especially in 4K.
It’s cool how jewelry robber Davis (Chris Hemsworth) uses psychology as much as violence. He shows diamond escorts a video of their house, so they know they can’t risk their loved ones. But, he still enforces it with guns and driving fast, with practical vehicle work.
4K gives both the action and drama a sharp picture. The subtle details really come into focus when he’s driving at night on the dark freeway, and shots inside the car with street lights illuminating his face against a dark void in the back seat.
The home video edition does not include any bonus features, so the movie speaks for itself. This one has no trouble standing out.
