Constantine 4K UHD Review: 4Keanu

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since Constantine. We’ve had a TV series since then but now it may come back to Keanu Reeves. And now we can bring the hellfire to 4K UHD.

Constantine looks great in the format, which highlights all the blackness in the hellscapre. From when Manuel reaches into a hole for the dagger to Angela (Rachel Weisz) sitting in a confessional, every instance of darkness in Constantine is heightened, even John (Reeves)’ black trenchcoat.

Since movies were still shot on film in 2005, the 35mm film gives a gritty hard-boiled texture to downtown Los Angeles scenes. 2005-era CGI is what it is but it would make sense The Devil is sending substandard CGI creatures after humanity.

Those demons rumble in surround sound giving each supernatural scene atmosphere.

A new retrospective on the film spends 15 minutes with Reeves, director Francis LAwrence, producer Akiva Goldsman, supporting cast and below the line crew. Their passion endures and they still remember specifics vividly.
