Clueless 4K UHD Review: As If It Wouldn’t Look Amazing

I worked at a movie theater when Clueless was playing. I just saw its 30th anniversary screening at the Academy Museum, and still I’ve never seen it look like it does on the 4K UHD.

Where the film is a fantasy, this looks real. I live in L.A. now and it looks more real in this 4K than in the actual valley and Beverly Hills. The pastels and plaid in the wardrobe absolutely shine in that environment.

Since the atmosphere is half the joke, those qualities benefit the humor exponentially. Cher (Alicia Silverstone)’s ’90s never actually existed, so the things she’s referring to now look even more fantastical.

Clueless is not a big surround movie. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones only echo slightly at their party. On the freeway, motorycles and the truck pass by in the rear.

The bonus features are from the 10th anniversary edition. The benefit of that is that Brittany Murphy is still involved. Some of the production stories have been updated and elaborated in the years since, but they’re also easy to find outside this edition.
