After the four disc 4K UHD/Blu-ray set last year, Cemetery Man is now available as a two disc set from Severin Films with one 4K and a Blu-ray with all the extras. The Italian graphic novel adaptation looks incredible in 4K UHD.
The film grain of 1994 is enhanced by the 4K gradation of the image. So the cemetery at night is just layers of darkness from headstones and statues in the moonlight to pitch black. Gnaghi’s shed is even darker than the cemetery with pockets of pure darkness in his hovel.
The kiss in the moonlight provides a romantic silhouette, and the motorcycle jump against a pitch black sky is striking.
In the daylight, the sun is so bright and sharp it makes the contrast 4000 times more vivid between day and night. The black mourning garb stands out in the day too.
Another fun touch is that the blue g host flames hover around the FBI warning on the disc too.
Between his 35 minute interview and the full commentary, director Michele Soavi remembers the making of the film, production stories and its themes. The commentary allows scene specific pointing out scenes taken from book and how they hid the wires with those floating blue sprites. On the commentary, screenwriter Gianni Romoli adds more details details. Even stories like signing Rupert Everett or combining two cemetery locations can be more elaborate in the commentary.
Everett and Anna Falchi remember Cemetery Man in detail in their interviews too. Falchi’s interview includes some behind the scenes footage of her playing foosball while waiting for makeup, if you ever wanted to see her totally casual.
