Deadline Hollywood reports that actress Gemma Chan has been cast in a villain role in Marvel Studios’ “CAPTAIN MARVEL” starring Brie Larson. Chan will play Minn-Erva (aka Doctor Minerva) who is a Kree geneticist and spy from the Marvel comics.

Chan is known for the AMC series “HUMANS” and the upcoming Warner Bros’ comedy, “CRAZY RICH ASIANS.” Chan also will be in Focus Features’ “MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS”, which stars Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan.

The “CAPTAIN MARVEL” film “will center on Carol Danvers (Larson), an Air Force pilot who debuted in the Marvel comics in 1968 as a human companion to the original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell), who will be played by actor Jude Law. When her DNA was fused with that of an alien during an accident, the resulting alteration imbued her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection and flight. Minn-Erva has similar powers.”

“MISSISSIPPI GRIND” directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing with a spring release date set for March 8, 2019. The cast includes Brie Larson, Ben Mendelsohn, Samuel L. Jackson and Jude Law.
