Following it’s huge box office success in Mexico, 20th Century Fox/Fox International Productions will release BUEN DÍA, RAMÓN on January 30, 2015. BUEN DÍA, RAMÓN (GOOD DAY, RAMON) tells the heartwarming story of a young man from a small Mexican town who travels to Germany to find work to support his family and becomes stranded without shelter or money. He struggles to survive on the streets until he meets Ruth, a lonely senior citizen with whom he develops an astonishing and touching friendship that transcends borders and prejudices. The film stars Kristyan Ferrer, Ingeborg Schöner and Adrianna Barazza, and is written, directed and produced by Jorge Ramirez-Suarez.
To celebrate the release of BUEN DÍA, RAMÓN in select cities on January 30th, here are some fun facts about Mexico and Germany’s unique history!
Master brewer Wilhelm Haase who was originally from Germany created Dos Equis lager in 1897 after he immigrated to Mexico. His approach was to combine his love for his homeland with the new and wonderful tastes and traditions of his new home. Originally, Haase named the brew “Siglo XX” which means “Twentieth Century.” The name Dos Equis comes from the Roman numeral for twenty, which is XX, or two Xs.
Oktoberfest is usually held in several large cities with German-Mexican communities throughout the country, mainly in Mexico City, Chihuahua, and Victoria de Durango. German Mexicans were important in the development of the Mexican cheese and brewing industries.
The German-Mexican population is especially prevalent in southern Mexico, particularly the state of Chiapas, where German farmers and industrialists where encouraged to immigrate in the late 1890s.
Banda music was established in the 1880s in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, when it exploded into popularity in the 1890s throughout Mexico. Its roots come from the overlapping of Mexican music with German polka music. At the time, many German Mexicans lived in the states of Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Jalisco and Nuevo León.
The Mexican National Fútbol team, along with Brazil and Germany, are the only nations to make it out of the group stage over the last six World Cups
Some notable people of Mexican-German decent include Frida Kahlo, Kuno Becker, Kat Von D, Vicente Fox, and Dulce Maria.
