Bride Hard Blu-ray Review: Yippee Ki-yay, Future Mother

Bride Hard sort of came and went this summer. Even a Die Hard aficionado like myself missed it. Now it’s got a bare bones Blu-ray but it’s enough fun to seek out on disc or VOD.

They don’t make many Die Hard in a _____ movies anymore so Die Hard in a wedding is a fun idea. Terrorists hold the wedding party hostage to get into the family safe but one of the guests (Rebel Wilson) is a secret agent unbenknownst to the good guys or bad.

It would be nice if Bride Hard took the action more seriously. It could be legit badass so peppering it with jokes undermines the heroines. There would still be plenty of opportunity for one liners after legit fights.

Simon West is clearly working with fewer resources than he had on Con Air, which was Die Hard on a prison plane. Still he gives Wilson as many set pieces as the location affords.

On Blu ray, it’s a bright daytime wedding movie. It’s an interesting juxtaposition as much as I’d love to see an orange sun Bruckheimer style Rebel Wilson action movie. The colors of the bridesmaids dresses pop.

I can’t imagine the speedboat finale looked good in theaters. They’re obviously standing still in front of Volume screens speeding past and there’s no way to match the elements. The rest of the action on the wedding estate is good though.

There are no extras. There aren’t even scene selections. It’s an independent distributor so they invested in the movie, not the Blu-ray menus.
