Recently, filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (Chappie, District 9) posted images of some concept art teasing fans about a possible new Alien film. Blomkamp believed his chance to direct a film involving one of cinemas’ most iconic monsters was only a dream. Now 20th Century Fox has cemented a deal with Blomkamp and tapped the director to develop a new Alien movie. Here is his post from Instagram!
The new film will be separate from Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus 2, which is in preproduction.
Blomkamp’s concept art featured veteran Alien franchise actress Sigourney Weaver, who was supposed to star in the reboot. It is still up in the air as to whether Weaver will be on board.
According to some sources close to the project, the new Alien takes place years after the Prometheus sequel. Ridley Scott will produce both films through his Scott Free production company.
Fox is hoping Blomkamp can elevate the status of the Alien franchise from a fresh standpoint.
Blomkamp’s Chappie will arrive in theaters on March 6th.
