According to the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios is moving forward with “Ant-Man 3” with a projected 2022 summer release. Director Peyton Reed, who helmed the previous two films, has signed on to return for the third film along with stars Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Evangeline Lilly (Hope van Dyne), and Michael Douglas (Hank Pym).
The plan is for Reed to enter production near the end of 2020 or early 2021 for a possible Summer 2022 release much like its two previous films, “Ant-Man” had a July 17th, 2015 release and “Ant-Man and the Wasp” opened on July 6th, 2018. This will be Paul Rudd’s fifth appearance as Scott Lang/Ant-Man after appearing in the first “Ant-Man”, “Captain America: Civil War”, “Ant-Man and the Wasp”, and last summers “Avengers: Endgame.”
Sources say Marvel Studios will first focus on Scott Derrickson’s “Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness” and Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love & Thunder” before filming Peyton Reed’s untitled “Ant-Man 3.”
Rumors circulated a few weeks ago that a third Ant-Man was off the table and the plan was to turn the movie into a limited series on the Disney plus streaming service like the “Falcon and Winter Soldier” and “WandaVision” which is being produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige. The two “Ant-Man” films have both pulled in a modest $519 million and $622 million respectively.
