Amazon recently introduced two new stipulations to their Amazon Prime video game discount: future games won’t qualify if they are remakes or remasters of previous titles.
While this obviously targets games like the Spyro Reignited trilogy and the eventual Final Fantasy VII Remake, the question is whether this shift in policy is financially motivated. The Best Buy Gamer’s Club Unlocked program disappeared this year, which gave members a discount on games for a $29 a year. Perhaps Amazon is finally feeling the weight of it’s 20% discount.
Currently, members are already limited to one copy per user, and it requires the $99 Prime membership (soon to be $119) to receive the discount at checkout. Time will tell if this program sticks around any longer.
