20th Century Fox is courting screenwriter Drew Goddard in order for him to write and direct “The Martian.” Goddard is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after screenwriters. Among his many works, he is responsible for writing “Cloverfield,” the horror film “The Cabin in the Woods” and the soon to be released mega budget Brad Pitt film “World War Z.”
“The Martian” is based on the e-book by Andy Weir. The story follows an astronaut who becomes stranded on Mars and must figure out how to survive long enough to return to Earth. The book is described to be a good mix of drama, science and humor that resembles a cross between “Apollo 13,” and “Cast Away.”
How about Robinson Crusoe on Mars?
Simon Kinberg will produce the film through his Genre Films production company along with Aditya Sood. Fox executive Steve Asbell is in charge of the project for the studio.
